I just finished reading Emily Hawk’s book, Girl King. I had a blast! It starts on the night before the main character’s, Ayla’s, wedding. The next day, her life is torn upside down but she is willing to take this new life on despite not knowing what will happen. Her life takes an altogether different path. The book was exciting and moved very quickly. While there is the word “girl” in the title and there is a wee bit of romance, this is a book for everyone. Ayla is girl who shows great strength, honor and conviction. The book is exciting and does not shy away from conflict. There is blood shed and lies and betrayals. The book does a great job with the ending as well. I will be quite happy to read another book from Miss Hawk!

I loved this book. The pacing was perfect - at no time did I feel the book slowed nor did I feel that subjects were glossed over. The characters were well developed especially Ayla! It was refreshing to read a female protagonist with such strength and none of the whining typically written into female leads. I could not put this book down and look forward to more of Ms. Hawk’s work.
Highly recommend- intriguing, interesting story that I couldn’t put down and looked forward to picking up again when I had to!
